This isn’t Illusion Soft’s only crime against women and general human decency however. RapeLay was a big budget piece of intentionally malicious, indulgent, fetishistic and (as it turns out under the 1985 Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women) illegal idiocy. This wasn’t just some throw-away trash like Custer’s Revenge. The game not only created such a stir because of its storyline and gameplay but also for it’s extremely high production values.

Three years after release it came to international attention following reviews by Something Awful and Honest Gamers. RapeLay may just be seen as an incidental and renegade foreign release but it’s effects were wide reaching. Never ones to be outdone by, well, anyone, Illusion Soft back in 2006 released a family themed game that only the West’s could love. The title – RapeLay – isn’t just some loose translation of a perfectly innocent title, it’s a very literal translation in a game in which you play “a male character who stalks and rapes a mother and her two daughters.” On the other hand if you’re looking for a game to buy your friendly neighbourhood rapist then you’re definitely in the right place. If you’re looking for a game to buy your children RapeLay might not be what you are looking for. The Premise: You play a male character who stalks and rapes a mother and her two daughters.
